FIRST FAILURES IN BUSINESS - VOLO SKINCARE

At 22 years old I looked for more meaning and purpose in my life and found that it takes education to understand the concept of rehabilitation. I started my first business a skincare brand despite having no experience, no education I ended up getting stocked in 16 pharmacies I just thought “I’m going to try my best and see where it gets me”. I ended up failing and losing $150,000 and almost going bankrupt but I learnt some big lessons along the way and I also managed to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Management which I had paid of before I graduated. I came to the cognitive realization that my multi-million dollar vision wasn’t going to succeed like all us founders think at the start.

In today’s society and especially with social media we only see success stories, people that came from nothing and made it big and we are bombarded with these false expectations when all we see is an ‘over night success’ yet we fail to see the 10 years of 100 hours weeks with dire uncertainty that many founders operate in sacrificing their health and everything do not think ‘what if?’ years later . For every successful start-up that gets an IPO or raises large sums of investment there is a graveyard where many founders and entrepreneurs’ dreams and years of sacrifice lie. My start up Volo Skincare a product based FMCG OTC start up is one of the latter, a failure but with valuable lessons learnt that actually paved the way for new opportunity. There is a saying ‘as one door closes another opens’, and this is complete true.

FINALLY SOME SUCCESS WITH MY FIRST EXIT - VOLO WELLBEING

My next start up Volo Wellbeing I took it from 0 to 150 stores in 10 months, ranged in major retailers such as Chemist Warehouse, Commonsense organics, Hardy’s Health Stores, Commonsense Organics and exporting to Australia, Hong Hong and Tahiti selling thousands of products in the process. In this time our social media went from 120 followers to 3500+. As a start up founder I became used to doing mostly everything my self and can really empathies with the struggles facing founders and business owners.

I ended up selling Volo Wellbeing to a New Zealand based beauty distributor in 2022 which was thankful as I did tell the media “If Volo was failure I was going to go skydiving without a parachute” My mentality for success and results is a “burn the boats to take the island approach” which in a start up environment is important. After selling Volo Wellbeing I joined a SaaS start up Park Alto as a co-founder & Sales Director and started B2B Hustle.
